Cheese and Onion Hand Pies

Cheese and Onion Hand Pies are smaller in size but are perfect for outdoor activities like camping, hiking or picnics. I have made them a couple of times and have found them to be very tasty. This recipe is easy to make but requires around 40 to 45 minutes to cook.

It was my mom’s birthday and I decided to make these cheese and onion hand pies for tea. Although I have a cook book which contains very good recipes for camping and home cooking, I was able to make this dish in 45 minutes or so without requiring any help. The best part was that my mom loved it.

Recipe for Making Cheese and Onion Hand Pies

  • Onions (Sliced) – 2 (medium size)
  • Butter – 2 tablespoon
  • Flour – 2 cups
  • Egg – 1 piece (Large)
  • Pie dough – 1 batch
  • Shredded cheese – ½ cup
  • Black pepper
  • Water – ¼ cup

Take a frying pan and put butter into it. Melt the butter over medium heat. Now, add onions, salt and a small amount of pepper with water into the butter and cook it for around 10 minutes.

Now, set the temperature of your oven at up to 375⁰. Take a baking sheet and place it on the baking plate. Take the pie dough, roll it out and cut 4 circles of around ½ inches each from the pie dough. Spread 1 tablespoon of cheese and 1 tablespoon of onion on each circle, sprinkle some egg on it, fold it over and use a fork to seal the opening. Now, place these hand pies on the baking sheet and put them into the oven. Bake for around 25 to 30 minutes and then serve them with mustard.
